Cruel Middle Ages. First look at Gloria Victis

A diverse MMORPG designed for massive battles between players, including for lands. Early access.

The game is announced for the Windows platform.

LYRICAL INTRODUCTION

Having played for about 12 hours and roughly understood the scale of what is happening, I will not take the liberty of saying that I have a good understanding of the game. I’ve learned the basics, but not much more yet. Therefore at first glance.

Available. Presented in the form of a small educational, but militant, campaign. The issuance of various tasks continues after that, it’s always some kind of small plot.

The gameplay is an MMORPG with a third-person view.

At the beginning, we select the faction (an important choice) for which we will play, the starting stats (not so important) and craft skills (almost not important at all) of the character.

The action takes place in a fantasy world stylized as the Middle Ages, divided between three factions. Midland is a kingdom in the east, Izmir in the west and Sagmar in the south. In the center there is something like the most disputed lands.

The borders of kingdoms are not static, there is always a war of all against all. Battles escalate during special events (I saw one like this yesterday). There are a lot of different events happening in the world (both PVP and PVE with the ability to switch to PVP), then some dark ritual needs to be stopped, then bandits have gone on a rampage, then we need to fight for lands – there’s enough to do.

By the way, by placing a special flag you can attack players of your faction. You can get their things from killed opponents.

The combat is quite a challenging slasher. Simple attacks are only good for winning against NPC robbers. I suspect the players will have to work hard to learn how to win.

There are at least 4 types of melee attacks, plus special attacks and archery, blocking with a shield in three directions. System – nontarget.

There are huge opportunities https://casinokatanaspin.co.uk/ for gathering players into squads and mass killings. If you fantasize (perhaps this is how they play, I’m not sure if it is so), then it’s easy to imagine that experienced shield warriors form shock columns that slowly and reliably go on an assault, shooting experts shower the enemy with clouds of arrows, and cavalry tramples the enemy’s formations.

The game features a large number of weapons and armor. Finding and crafting new items is extremely interesting.

Accordingly, there is a serious system for collecting resources and crafting. There are a variety of workbenches where you can craft higher quality items. Perhaps I didn’t understand it, but it seemed to me that crafting, with due diligence, can be pumped up to the maximum.

Unsuccessful enchanting/improving an item can break it completely.

For leveling up you get five stat points and a skill point. Attributes directly improve a character’s properties, and skill points can be spent in a special development tree for a very diverse leveling. I really liked that one way or another you will have to choose the hero’s specialization, because.To. You can learn and upgrade only one ultimate parameter out of several.

Maximum character level 100.

At the start they give you one free opportunity to reset skills and stats. It is extremely wise to use this right to make mistakes; further transfers will not be cheap.

In the game you can ride a horse (I haven’t tried it yet) or shoot from siege weapons (aiming from a trebuchet is not easy).

There is an in-game store with things, mainly skins and scrolls for increased experience, which is already rushing from all corners, the prices are quite steep. Similar things (except for skins and, it seems, additional character slots) can be bought from the quartermaster in the faction capital for achievement points, which can be obtained through gameplay. It’s rare (I can’t say how constant this process is), but they throw in donated currency in the game.

Let’s look at the pros and cons of the game and summarize.

+ The graphics are simple, not without mistakes, but overall pleasant.

+ Excellent music and sound accompaniment.

+ The atmosphere of the Middle Ages is well conveyed.

+ Interesting character leveling system. Good skill tree.

+ Good slasher nontarget combat system.

+ Good implementation of the faction war idea. Great prospects for guild building. You can join a top guild without much effort.

+ There are PVP and PVE events, a lot of events – something is always happening.

+ Partial Russian localization of text. In general – everything is clear.

THINGS THAT CAN BE BOTH A PLUS AND A MINUS:

+- Player loot system. For me this is a terrible minus. Let me “spread my thoughts across the tree” here too to explain my point of view. Look. Here I am a player. I like battles and the game is geared towards them, it would seem – go ahead. But. There is a huge BUT. In what form will I come/should I come to battle?? Taking into account the fact that in mass PVP players are dying like flies, it is logical that I will not wear my best gear, since it will be a shame to part with it, and if I do, there must be a duplicate lying around in the warehouse no worse (and this is expensive in this game). At best, I’ll equip myself with something mediocre/decent, or even of lower quality. But, in this case, this is a fight between homeless people and no one will actually enjoy it, equipment greatly affects the fighter’s parameters. And having lost my gear, how soon can I return to battle?? It turns out that you won’t be able to dress well again very soon. As for me, anything needs to be realized: loss of some money, serious damage, but not loss of gear, including during sharpening. I foresee angry rebuke to such an opinion, but guys, the score on the scoreboard is that there are about 300 people in the game on Steam, and sometimes even less, despite the fact that the game is obviously good. I think for this reason, t.To. people (and players even more so) are generally not fools and value their time. But maybe for some it will do just fine, so I don’t put it as a pure minus.

– There are graphic bugs, gaps through textures. It didn’t hurt to play like an oldfag, but there is a minus.

– Localization is still incomplete. There are whole chunks of text in English. I hope they fix it, but that’s it for now.

A very good MMORPG with many interesting mechanics. The system of mass battles, land seizures and the combat system in general is well thought out and implemented. Lots of interesting loot, crafting and upgrades. PVE crabs may have a very hard time due to the loot of equipment from corpses. I don’t understand why PVP guys aren’t in the game yet (maybe they’ve been playing enough since 2016), for PVP players it looks almost like paradise.

PS: I probably didn’t cover all the aspects, I might have missed something. I will be glad to add/correct the review or answer questions along the way in the comments.
